This is a large (17" x 40") piece containing the Tennessee state symbols, eleven Tennesseans who were commemorated for the bicentennial, and nine additional men and women who were chosen by the artist to honor. The piece traces the shape of the state outlined by the different counties and the dates of their incorporation. The western border is defined by the major Tennessee rivers. This piece also includes quotations from ten Tennesseans regarding their favorite things about the state of Tennessee. Some of the people commemorated in the piece include Alex Haley, Ida B. Wells Barnett, Elvis Presley, W. C. Handy, James Knox Polk, Nathan Bedford Forrest, Anne Dallas Dudley, Andrew Jackson, Mary Noailles Murfree, Albert Gore Jr., Cordell Hull, Alvin York, Bessie Smith, Sequoyah, David Glasgow Farragut, Samuel Houston, John Sevier, Dolly Parton, Andrew Johnson, and David Crockett.
